Summer is my favorite season- warm weather, longer days, and for most people a much more active social life. It’s been a while since I’ve shared a post with all of you. There are many reasons for this- but one is simply because it has been busy! Friends getting married, vacations, working, and enjoying every minute of summer have gotten in the way. If you are anything like me, you enjoy incorporating a little bit of Disney details into all of your outfits and outings. This summer has been no exception for me and I want to share some of the outfits I’ve worn for some of these occasions and hopefully inspire you to do the same.
For most of these outfits, I’ve included a small Disney detail or item rather than a statement piece because I felt that it was more appropriate given the places and events in which I was wearing them. So let me take you through my summer so far by sharing the outfits I’ve worn along the way.
At the start of the summer I went on a weeklong girls trip with my mom and 2 younger sisters. If you follow me on Instagram you’ve already seen some of my Disney adventures from that trip; but the rest of the week was spent by the beach in Florida and a Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas.
This outfit was perfect for the occasion. The dress was actually from Groupon and it is comfy, stylish, and flattering. I usually wear it out as an outfit, but it also doubles as a swimsuit cover up. The floppy hat from Forever 21 (similar) is perfect for any outdoor summer activities because I am so pale and it protects my head and face from the sun. The sandals I had bought from Payless (similar) last year and I wear them all summer long- they are SO comfortable.
My Disney accessory is this Mickey tote that I use with me all the time for travel. It was a gift from a friend and I believe she bought it from Walmart (similar). The tote is so versatile and can be used for travel, as a beach bag, or to carry a few bottles of champagne onto a yacht (if that’s your thing!) It also doubled as a very sturdy trick or treating bag last year at the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
Next on my list of summer adventures was the wedding of two of my college friends. My group of friends is always a blast and we hadn’t seen each other in a while. I knew my outfit and shoes both had to be comfortable in order to dance the whole night with ease.
I had eyed up this Lauren Conrad dress (similar) from Kohl’s for what seemed like forever and finally grabbed it when it went on clearance and there was one left in my size! It is great because the bottom is flowy, the length was enough to keep everything covered while dancing, and it is very supportive so you don’t need to wear a bra with it (unless you want to). I wanted a neutral shoe that was comfortable but not boring, and this pair from Aldo’s was the perfect fit. I was able to dance in them all night with minimal discomfort.
Since it was a formal event, I kept my Disney accessories to a minimum. I wore my sapphire birthstone earrings and matching necklace that I got from Disney (sold in the parks only) and a Star Wars stormtrooper clutch bag that I got from Spencers (similar) on sale for about $2 (I couldn’t believe that price either!)
Summer isn’t always fun and games and wedding and vacation, so I find ways to add some Disney magic to my everyday wear at work. Since I work for a fashion company, the dress code is fairly laid back in our office. I have no problem wearing a graphic tee like this one from Cherry Tree Lane at the Marketplace Co-op in Disney Springs (similar).
For this outfit, I paired the tee with jeans (like this pair from Avenue with zipper details on the ankle, similar), a blazer (Macy’s), and flats (Payless). I can’t recommend these flats enough. With most flats I always have a problem with breaking them in and end up with cuts and blisters. These are comfortable and lightweight right from the start. Most times I also pair my work attire with a coffee, but that’s just my suggestion.
This is a good alternative if your office is a little less business casual than mine. My younger sister Amy works for an Insurance company and dresses up more than I do daily. Her outfit includes her daily basics- a skirt, button up, heels, and blazer. She adds a touch of Disney by stacking some Disney Alex & Ani charms. These matching gold earrings from the parks are also a great addition! (Mine were $20 at the parks, but the Disney Store has the real deal too if you aren’t about fake jewelry.)
First dates are another instance where you might not want to scream I LOVE DISNEY with your outfit. Subtle touches are a better choice to start. Luckily for me, the person I went to dinner with this summer actually liked Disney. Unfortunately, it ended up not even being an actual date. Regardless, I think I looked cute and hopefully you can draw some inspiration.
You probably recognize this dress from my Beauty & The Beast inspired post from March. It is from Forever 21 (similar) and is still one of my absolute favorites. I’ve worn this dress to a casual summer wedding, but for a first date I would dress it down more. I paired it with my denim jacket (similar), which is always paired with my favorite pins from Bibbidi Bobbidi Brooke, Hazel and Bean, Jollygood Apparel, & Fred and Far. A pair of casual but semi-dressy strappy sandals (Payless, similar) makes sure you feel comfy, cute & confident.
Last, but certainly not least, on my list of summer activities that I’ve been up to is going to concerts. Normally I go to many every summer but I’m trying to be more budget conscious this year and cutting down. Luckily, we bought my father tickets to The Classic East for Father’s Day and I volunteered to go with him. We went last weekend and had such a great time! The Eagles and The Doobie Brothers were amazing. And, my father & I, who normally don’t get along well, bonded and really enjoyed ourselves.
I thought my new(ish) choker collar Mickey tee from Forever 21 (similar) was perfect for a rock concert. The choker collar and dark colors made it less whimsical and more edgy. Paired with black denim, my favorite heels from Target (similar), and a red flannel (because New Jersey weather in the summer is weird) I thought it was the perfect Disney inspired concert look.
If you want to add some Disney to your style but find it to be overwhelming- start small. A piece of jewelry, a bag, a layered tee, or even a subtle Disneybound are all great places to start.
We still have a month of summer left with so much to see & do and so many more Disney inspired outfits to create. What big plans do you have left for the summer? And how do you bring Disney into your everyday look?
